Yard Grading in Ontario

Sod only looks as good as the ground under it. Grading shapes the yard so water runs away from the house and the surface is smooth enough to mow, and on most lawn replacements it is the step that decides whether new sod lies flat or settles into dips. Ask how they set the slope away from the foundation, whether they bring in topsoil for the final grade or rework what is there, and how they firm and level it before the sod goes down. If the yard drains toward a neighbour's lot or a walkway, ask what they will change and whether your municipality has rules on lot grading.
